I have been known to read at the dinner table, with parents, friends, and even significant others watching in mixtures of embarrassment, annoyance, and horror.

That’s what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book, and that tiny thing will lead you to another book, and another bit there will lead you onto a third book. It’s geometrically progressive - all with no end in sight, and for no other reason than sheer enjoyment.

"I Was a Teenage Illiterate" by Cathleen Schine. This is a lovely little essay on the joys of discovering classic literary novels as an adult, an opportunity lost to those who read the books as children.  It’s never too late to enjoy reading for pleasure.
